Artistic Statement
In the thirty years I've spent getting to the level of craftsmanship on which I now reside, I've learned one overarching truth about jewelry. There are two distinct and rarely overlapping worlds of the jewelry trade with two separate points of view: the sphere of the commercial jeweler and that of the artist. Neither is incorrect, merely — in my opinion — incomplete.
The commercial or store front jeweler naturally must preoccupy himself with the profitability of daily business. Otherwise, failure is inevitable. Concerned with the speed and cost of production, this jeweler quite often disregards originality and the artistic aspect of his product, instead emphasizing the function of the jewel at hand. "Does this wedding ring appeal to the right demographic and can I mass produce this design?" are questions this jeweler must ask.
The art jeweler is often guilty of the opposite sin. The artist often ignores the function of the jewel, thinking only of the form and forgetting aspects like wearability and commercial appeal. If a wedding ring cannot be worn comfortably all day, every day for the rest of your life, then it must be considered a losing design.
Therefore, the aim of my professional career has been to bridge these worlds as well as I can. Taking the best of both worlds and leaving the detriments of each behind, I produce comfortable jewelry of the highest level of quality that has great artistic appeal at a reasonable price.
